Jeff Queen Clinic on October 16, 2008
On October 16, 2008, Just Drums hosted a clinic featuring Jeff Queen. The clinic was timed with the 2008 marching season and
hopefully, many who attended this clinic took back valuable information to their drumlines and own personal practice rooms
to improve their playing.
I feel like I’m repeating myself now after reviewing each of our clinics but once again, we had a great time
and had a great turnout. Over 130 attendees were there to watch Jeff perform. We initially were to hold the clinic in the Midlothian High School band room but once ticket sales exceeded 100, we decided to move it to their auditorium.
Jeff was an amazing performer and an equally talented educator. He was very personable, easy going, easy to work
with, and a blast to have around. He conducted his clinic in a very friendly, professional manner.
After a solo or two, he discussed many topics such as practicing methods, private instruction, positive attitudes,
and shared many great personal stories. Needless to say, Jeff’s technique and performing capabilities are
flawless…almost to the point of absurdity. His amazing accomplishments really show when he picks up a pair of
sticks and approaches a snare drum.
We wrapped up the clinic with his signature “Tribute” solo as well as giving a lot of door prizes.
Jeff was friendly and easily available to answer any questions and give autographs as well.
We had an absolute blast and we definitely plan on doing it again next fall. If you ever get a chance to see Jeff perform, I
highly recommend you doing so.
I would like to thank Chris Thomas and Gordon Rawls from Midlothian High School, the Midlothian High School
band booster volunteers, Powhatan High School, James River High School, Bluestar High School and Monticello High
School for bringing their drumlines and continued support, my entire Just Drums staff, Zildjian Cymbals, Evans drumheads, Hudson Music,
Vic Firth drumsticks, and Pearl drums. I would also like to thank all those who came and support us in the past.

Jeff hangs out at the shop and of course, we all begin Playing With Sticks.
