Just Drums gets a visit from Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz

On July 8, 2008, Weird Al Yankovic performed at Richmond's very own The National - a great new venue for concerts and shows. Weird Al's drummer of close to 30 years, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz, made a visit to Just Drums eariler that day and hung out with the Just Drums family. Jon hung out, chatted, gave autographs, and checked out some gear.

Following his visit to the shop, we drove Jon back to the venue about two hours before show time and brought a long a few of our dedicated students. Jon took us backstage and up on the stage. We able to see all the stage gear as it was being assembled and tested. This made a huge impression on the younger students and of course, they'll remember that experience forever.

Jon was also kind enough to let us sit at his Ludwig Classic Maple drum set and take it for a spin. We all got a huge kick out of checking out the sampled sound effects triggered from pedals and a multipad. Burps, dog barks, glass breaking, whistles, ...it was all there! We also got a kick out of the dual ButtKickers installed on Jon's throne.

Jon was a fantastic guy and his visit was a real treat! He was a great host and we greatly appreciate the time he took out of his schedule to pay us a visit and to give us the VIP treatment at the show. We all received backstage passes and got to meet the band, tour the stage, and of course, we all met Weird Al.

The show was a blast! It much more of a "show" than than a concert. It was extremely entertaining, well rehersed, well paced, and just a hell of a good time. Just as it should be. Nonebody out there has an act like this. And for the record, Weird Al is much more of a talented musician than most people are award of.
